Nomad eSIM Review 2026: Prices, Plans and Alternatives
Compare Nomad, Saily, Yesim and eSIMfo with verified Japan prices, unlimited data limits, hotspot, activation and refund details before your trip.

In this article
A good travel eSIM should make arrival easier: open your map, message your hotel and find the right train without hunting for Wi-Fi. Nomad is worth considering for its choice of prepaid plans and clear product-detail panels. The useful question is whether the particular plan suits your destination, data use and departure date.
This review looks at Nomad's prices, unlimited data, hotspot, activation and alternatives. We use Japan as a controlled example, comparing 10 GB for 30 days in EUR across Nomad, Saily, Yesim and eSIMfo. That is a comparison of published offers, not a claim that their network performance is identical.
Checked on 22 October 2026. eSIMfo sells competing travel eSIMs. This is an editorial review of official product pages and support documentation, not a paid field test or a Nomad partnership. Promotions and plan conditions can change; the final order details take precedence.
What is Nomad eSIM, and who is it for?
Nomad sells digital mobile plans through its website and iOS/Android apps. Its Google Play publisher is LotusFlare Inc. Country, regional and global packages suit different routes; the brand's advertised destination count does not mean every plan covers every country.
It is a practical shortlist option for travellers who want to buy before departure, compare several data allowances and manage eligible add-ons from one account. People who need ordinary phone calls, a local number or bank SMS must examine the service type separately. The Japan plans inspected here are data-only, with no local phone number.
The strengths are choice and accessible plan-level information. The trade-offs are conditions that vary by product: activation deadlines, add-on eligibility, network generation and refund rules. Read the selected plan rather than relying only on the destination page's headline.
How much does Nomad cost? A Japan price example
The official Japan page showed these individual prepaid offers. No referral code, points redemption or multi-person discount was applied.
| Data | Validity | Displayed price | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 GB | 7 days | €3.56 | A small allowance with a shorter deadline |
| 3 GB | 30 days | €6.23 | Usage budget for a light trip |
| 5 GB | 30 days | €8.89 | Maps, messages and moderate browsing |
| 10 GB | 30 days | €14.23 | Promotional price; crossed-out €16.01 |
| 20 GB | 30 days | €20.46 | Promotional price; crossed-out €23.13 |
| 50 GB | 30 days | €31.13 | Larger allowance; check the exact technical terms |
A seven-day holiday does not necessarily require a seven-day package. A 30-day allowance can still be the better fit if you need more data. Conversely, unused GB have little value after validity ends. Estimate your use before chasing the lowest price per GB.
For example, a personal budget of 500 MB per day over 14 days is approximately 7 GB. A 10 GB plan leaves about 3 GB of headroom. This is a planning calculation, not measured app consumption: video calls, cloud backups and tethered laptops can change it dramatically.

The plan details matter more than a 5G headline
Opening the 10 GB/30-day offer revealed 4G, KDDI au / SoftBank, hotspot allowed, data-only, add-ons available and Sapphire as the provider. The broader destination page also discusses 4G/5G. For this selected offer, we would base a purchase on the specific 4G detail rather than promise 5G from the general copy.
This is not proof of poor performance. It shows why two eSIMs with the same data allowance may differ. Local network access, routing, congestion, phone model and location all affect the experience. We did not measure Nomad latency or throughput on a Japanese network.

Is Nomad unlimited data really unlimited?
The Japan 14-day unlimited plan was €36.47. Its detail panel specified 2 GB per day at 4G/5G, then 1 Mbps, hotspot supported, no add-on and non-refundable. Access continues after the daily high-speed allowance, but the experience changes. A large upload or a laptop video meeting may be frustrating at the reduced speed.
Compare that with Saily's displayed Japan unlimited conditions: 5 GB per day without a speed cap, then up to 1 Mbps. Its selected 15-day offer was €43.49. These are different durations and high-speed budgets; neither total price nor the word unlimited alone provides an equal comparison. Check reset timing in the chosen provider's current terms.

Nomad vs Saily vs Yesim vs eSIMfo: the same 10 GB and 30 days
| Provider | Japan allowance | Price in EUR | Relevant distinction |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nomad | 10 GB / 30 days | €14.23 | Sale price; selected details show 4G and an available add-on |
| Saily | 10 GB / 30 days | €15.99 | Published fixed-data offer; compare its app features and activation window |
| Yesim | 10 GB / 30 days | €16.00 | Discounted offer; hotspot available, balance top-up not available on this plan |
| eSIMfo | 10 GB / 30 days | €11.90 | Selected plan lists SoftBank/KDDI, 5G, hotspot and top-up |
eSIMfo was the lowest-priced option among these four exact offers on this date. That does not establish the cheapest provider in every country or prove faster service. Nomad promotions may change the result; a smaller allowance or a different itinerary can favour a different plan.
Saily's page stated a 180-day activation window, Yesim's selected offer 90 days, and Nomad's selected offer 60 days before automatic activation. This matters when booking far ahead. For more detail, see our Saily review, Yesim review and guide to comparing providers with eSIMDB.
Installing Nomad without starting the wrong clock
First check the exact model, regional version and carrier-unlock status of your phone against Nomad's compatibility list. The presence of a recent iPhone or Galaxy name alone is not enough.
- Buy a plan covering every intended destination and the full travel period.
- With reliable internet, follow the supplied installation instructions and add the eSIM using the QR code or supported app flow. Installation and plan activation are separate steps for the offer examined here.
- Label the profile clearly. At your destination, choose Nomad for mobile data and enable data roaming on that travel eSIM as instructed.
- Keep unwanted roaming and automatic mobile-data switching on your home line disabled. Keeping that line available for SMS does not make outgoing calls or roaming data free.
- Check the start date and remaining allowance in your account. This Japan plan starts on connection to a supported network, or automatically after 60 days from purchase. Some other products have different steps.

Hotspot, top-ups and troubleshooting while travelling
The reviewed fixed and unlimited Japan plans both permit hotspot. Sharing data with a laptop still uses the same allowance and any high-speed limit. Download maps before travel, pause photo backups on mobile data and prevent laptop updates from consuming the whole package.
An add-on is not a rollover promise. Nomad explains that eligible add-ons can continue service using the same profile, while unused data from the original plan does not carry over. Its validity guide distinguishes buying another allowance from extending the original validity. The fixed 10 GB offer supported an add-on; the unlimited example did not.
If Nomad is installed but offline, check that you are in a covered destination, the plan is active, the correct data line is selected and roaming is enabled on that line. Try airplane mode briefly, then follow the supplied network/APN instructions or contact support over Wi-Fi. Do not delete the eSIM as your first troubleshooting step: single-use profiles may not be reinstallable.
Refunds and support: check before purchase
Nomad's refund policy sets a 30-day request window for eligible plans, with conditions depending on installation, activation and the problem. It is not an unconditional money-back guarantee. The unlimited offer examined here explicitly said non-refundable. Keep your order reference and evidence of any connection problem for support; do not assume deleting the profile cancels the purchase.
Which option fits your trip?
| Your situation | Useful shortlist | Decision to make |
|---|---|---|
| A fixed data budget for Japan | All four 10 GB offers | Compare total price, network details and top-up needs |
| Heavy daily uploads or hotspot | Fixed large-GB plans and unlimited plans | Compare the high-speed daily limit before the headline allowance |
| Booking months ahead | Check each activation deadline | Avoid a plan automatically starting before departure |
| Ordinary calls or bank SMS | A suitable voice/SMS plan or your existing line | A data-only travel plan does not replace the number receiving your bank codes |
For Japan, browse current eSIMfo packages alongside the Nomad shortlist. If receiving verification messages is essential, read our SMS abroad guide before changing lines. The best purchase is the plan that covers the actual job your phone must do.
Nomad eSIM questions answered
Is Nomad eSIM a real provider?
Nomad has an official website and mobile apps; its Google Play listing names LotusFlare Inc. Verify the destination and terms of your selected plan rather than treating the brand name as a performance guarantee.
Is Nomad cheaper than Saily or Yesim?
For Japan 10 GB/30 days on 22 October 2026, Nomad showed €14.23, Saily €15.99 and Yesim €16.00. Nomad's price was promotional. Other countries, allowances and dates can produce a different result.
What is an alternative to Nomad eSIM?
Saily, Yesim and eSIMfo are useful alternatives to compare by destination. In this four-offer Japan sample, eSIMfo's 10 GB/30-day price was €11.90. Check features and current checkout terms as well as price.
Does Nomad unlimited data stay at full speed?
Not throughout the reviewed Japan offer: it listed 2 GB per day at 4G/5G, followed by 1 Mbps. Read the selected package's fair-use conditions before relying on it for continuous high-bandwidth work.
Can I use Nomad as a hotspot?
Yes for both Japan plans inspected here. The shared device consumes the same data budget; tethering does not remove a daily speed limit. Confirm hotspot permission on other plans separately.
Does Nomad include a number for calls and SMS?
The Japan offers reviewed here do not. WhatsApp can use their data connection with your existing account, but ordinary calls and SMS require an appropriate line. A new number will not automatically receive bank codes sent to your old number.
When should I activate Nomad?
Follow your package instructions. The reviewed Japan plan starts when it connects to the destination network, or automatically 60 days after purchase. You can prepare installation on Wi-Fi before departure without confusing it with the plan start.
What should I do if Nomad is not working?
Check coverage, plan status, mobile-data selection and travel-line roaming, then follow the provider's network instructions. Contact support with the order reference if needed. Keep the eSIM installed while troubleshooting.
