Your maps work, WhatsApp is online, but the bank's verification text never arrives. That does not necessarily mean your travel eSIM is broken. The first question is simple: which phone number is the message being sent to? A working internet connection and an SMS-capable phone number are different services.

If the code is sent to your usual number, check that original line. If you need a new number for travel calls and messages, choose a plan that explicitly includes a number, voice and SMS. A new eSIM number does not automatically receive messages addressed to your old number.

Checked 9 October 2026. eSIMfo sells the plans discussed below; prices and coverage are dated examples. Product screenshots show the service interface, not a test proving delivery from every bank. The cover is an editorial illustration.

Your needWhat can helpWhat will not solve it by itself
A bank code sent to your existing numberKeep that number's line reachable abroad or use an approved alternative authentication methodBuying an unrelated new number

A separate number for travel calls and SMSA numbered plan with destination coverageAssuming a country prefix means worldwide coverage

Why can internet work while SMS does not?

A data-only eSIM gives you internet but no ordinary SMS number. WhatsApp and other internet messaging services can work over it; they are not evidence that your original mobile line is receiving SMS. RCS, iMessage and MMS also have different requirements from a plain SMS.

The bank sends its code to the number registered in your account, not to whichever SIM currently supplies data. Keep your normal SIM or eSIM enabled if that is the destination number. Turning off its data roaming to avoid data charges is different from turning the entire line off. Ordinary SMS does not usually require mobile data, but the line still needs supported service abroad.

Five checks when a text does not arrive abroad

  • Confirm the registered number and country code. If you changed your number, update it through the bank or service's official process; a new SIM does not do this automatically.
  • Check that the original line is enabled, has service and is permitted to roam internationally. Ask its operator about incoming SMS, account restrictions and local network partners.
  • Test an ordinary SMS from someone you know. If personal texts arrive but verification codes do not, investigate the sender's number policy, short-code support or temporary limits rather than repeatedly reinstalling the travel eSIM.
  • Review blocked senders and spam folders. Wait for the service's stated retry period before requesting another code; repeated requests can trigger rate limits.
  • Use another method already supported by the service, such as an approved in-app confirmation or passkey. Contact official support if necessary. Never share a one-time code or your eSIM QR code with someone offering to fix it.

Before a trip, check dual-SIM settings with your device's official instructions. On Samsung this is typically Settings → Connections → SIM manager; on iPhone, Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service. Select the travel line for data, keep the required original line active and review automatic data switching. Wi-Fi calling and SMS over Wi-Fi depend on the operator, device and country; availability and charges are not universal.

When does a new numbered eSIM make sense?

An additional number can be useful for travel calls, contacting accommodation and exchanging ordinary texts without using your usual number for every interaction. It is a separate service, not an automatic replacement for the number tied to existing accounts. Tell contacts the new number and confirm destination coverage before buying.

What does eSIMfo Global Premium +1 include?

The checked Global Premium product combines data, calls and SMS with a +1 number across 168 listed destinations. Check the exact countries and plan terms for your itinerary; this is not a promise of coverage at every location or support for every verification service. Global Pass is a separate data product and should not be assumed to include a number.

Example Global Premium planIncluded calls / outgoing SMSPrice checked
1 GB · 7 days10 minutes / 10 SMS€9.80
5 GB · 60 days50 minutes / 50 SMS€42.15
20 GB · 365 days200 minutes / 200 SMS€87.40

Prices were checked on 9 October 2026. Compare current Global Premium plans before purchase. The checked terms split outgoing minutes and SMS into 75% for local destination numbers and 25% for international numbers; inspect the selected plan's full conditions rather than treating every allowance as unrestricted international use.

Incoming SMS are not deducted from the outgoing SMS allowance under the checked terms. Validity begins after installation and the first network connection. Top up before expiry to retain the assigned number; the terms do not guarantee that the same number can be restored after expiry. Top-ups bundle data, minutes and SMS. When minutes are exhausted, incoming calls also stop according to the product conditions.

Which four country numbers are available?

The numbered-plan selector offers United Kingdom +44, Israel +972, Netherlands +31 and United States +1. These are country-number options with their own plans. The prefix describes the number, not an automatic entitlement to use the plan worldwide. Compare them in the numbered eSIM selector and check the exact coverage and validity.

Will a new eSIM number receive bank verification codes?

Some services deliver verification messages to these numbers, but the checked product conditions explicitly exclude a universal guarantee: certain banks, short-code senders and premium services may not support virtual numbers. The number must also be the one registered with the sender. Confirm acceptance with the relevant service before relying on it for important account access.

Travel eSIM and SMS: common questions

Why are SMS not arriving on my eSIM?

First check whether the plan supports ordinary SMS and which number the sender is using. A data-only eSIM cannot receive texts addressed to your original number; that original line must remain reachable.

Must I enable data roaming to receive a normal SMS?

Ordinary SMS generally does not require mobile data. Your line must still be active and supported by its operator abroad. Data roaming, MMS, RCS and Wi-Fi calling have different requirements.

Can I keep my home SIM for SMS and use eSIM for data?

Yes on a supported dual-SIM device and compatible services. Keep the home line active, select the travel line for data and check operator charges and automatic data switching.

Does Global Premium provide a +1 number?

The checked Global Premium plans include a +1 number with data, minutes and SMS. Confirm the chosen plan's destination list, validity and usage rules at purchase.

Will all banks accept the new number?

No guarantee applies to every bank or service. Some block virtual numbers or do not deliver short-code messages. The sender must also have your new number registered.

Does my old number's SMS move to the new eSIM number?

No. A new number does not redirect the old number's messages automatically. Keep the old line working or change the registered number through each service's official process.

Can I keep the Global Premium number after the trip?

The checked terms allow keeping it by topping up before expiry. Do not assume an expired number can always be recovered; review validity and renewal before the plan ends.
