Travel eSIM Comparison 2026: 11 Brands, Prices & Features
Compare Holafly, Yesim, Saily, Nomad, Ubigi and more: checked prices, hotspot limits, plan choices and practical advice for your next trip.

In this article
The best travel eSIM is the one that fits your route, data use and phone—not simply the brand with the biggest country count. A week of maps and messages, a month of laptop work and a cruise require different plans. Here we compare 11 providers using published product information, with Japan as a shared price example.
Which travel eSIM should you shortlist?
For controlled spending, compare fixed-data plans first. For heavy phone use, compare unlimited plans together with their high-speed and hotspot allowances. For several countries, check every stop in one regional or global plan. For a cruise, verify the ship and maritime service separately. There is no single winner for every route.
11 eSIM brands: product range and practical differences
A provider selling plans for 200 destinations does not mean one purchase includes 200 destinations. The table describes the product range; the purchased plan’s country list and conditions decide what you actually receive.
| Provider | Product range | What matters before buying |
|---|---|---|
| aloSIM | Country, regional and global; fixed and unlimited data | aloSIM pairs travel data with a Hushed phone-number offer. Calling and texting use the separate Hushed service; this is not automatically a local SIM number. Check included credits and expiry. |
| eSIMfo | Destination data bundles and unlimited options | eSIMfo offers several sizes and durations. In the Japan example, compare 10 GB with the 7-day unlimited plan: the latter has 3 GB of high-speed data per 24 hours, then 1 Mbps. |
| eSIM io | Country, regional and global; OneSIM and pay-as-you-go | eSIM io combines a reusable profile with io Balance and timed offers. Check the end-of-plan setting and current destination price. A reusable profile does not make all countries free. |
| GigSky | Country and regional data; specialist cruise products | GigSky is worth investigating when a trip combines land and sea. A normal Japan plan is not a cruise package; check your ship, route and eligible plan rather than assuming maritime coverage. |
| Holafly | Day-based unlimited travel plans; regional and global options | Holafly suits travelers who prefer choosing days rather than a GB bundle. Its Japan plan allows 1 GB of hotspot data per day. Unlimited phone data is not unlimited laptop sharing. |
| Jetpac | Fixed and unlimited packs; optional in-app voice packs | Jetpac combines data with travel extras. Its Japan unlimited terms specify 3 GB per 24 hours, then up to 1 Mbps. App voice packs are separate from SMS service. |
| Maya Mobile | Global Unlimited and Global + Cruise | Maya Mobile now presents a Travel Mode model with 3-, 7-, 14- and 30-day periods. Review renewal controls and the current coverage list. Its acceptable-use policy excludes fixed home/office broadband replacement. |
| Nomad | Country, regional and global; fixed and unlimited options | Nomad offers a broad choice of allowances. Check the exact network, validity and add-on eligibility of the selected plan. A promotion in Japan does not establish the cheapest price worldwide. |
| Saily | Country, regional and global; fixed data and unlimited options | Saily adds app security features and optional phone-number services. Its Japan unlimited offer lists 5 GB daily without a speed limit, then up to 1 Mbps. Calls and texts require the relevant separate plan. |
| Ubigi | Country and multi-country; one-off, monthly and annual plans | Ubigi uses a reusable eSIM with in-app top-ups. The Japan 10 GB offer permits data sharing and starts its validity on arrival through Smartstart. Distinguish a one-off purchase from a recurring plan. |
| Yesim | Fixed data, unlimited and Pay & Fly | Yesim offers several ways to buy data. The selected Japan fixed plan allows hotspot but lists no balance top-up. Its unlimited products can be subject to the network operator’s fair-use policy. |
Price comparison: Japan, 10 GB for 30 days
These are displayed public offers for one traveler, recorded on the same date. Japan is a practical common benchmark, not a claim about worldwide pricing. No personal coupon, referral credit or multi-buy discount was applied. EUR and USD are kept as displayed; compare in the same checkout currency before deciding.
| Provider | Allowance / validity | Displayed total | Price per GB |
|---|---|---|---|
| aloSIM | 10 GB / 30 days | USD 18.00Displayed price | USD 1.80 |
| eSIMfo | 10 GB / 30 days | EUR 11.90Displayed price | EUR 1.19 |
| GigSky | 10 GB / 30 days | USD 15.11Displayed promotion | USD 1.51 |
| Jetpac | 10 GB / 30 days | USD 16.00Displayed promotion | USD 1.60 |
| Nomad | 10 GB / 30 days | USD 16.00Displayed promotion | USD 1.60 |
| Saily | 10 GB / 30 days | EUR 15.99Displayed price | EUR 1.60 |
| Ubigi | 10 GB / 30 days | USD 16.50Displayed price | USD 1.65 |
| Yesim | 10 GB / 30 days | EUR 16.00Displayed promotion | EUR 1.60 |
GigSky showed USD 15.11 instead of 16.79; Jetpac USD 16.00 instead of 23.00; Nomad USD 16.00 instead of 18.00; Yesim EUR 16.00 instead of 37.00. Promotions can end. Per-GB figures divide the displayed total by 10; payment taxes, currency conversion and any added services must be checked at checkout.
Unlimited eSIM prices: four 7-day examples
These examples complement the fixed-data table; other providers above also sell unlimited offers. “Unlimited” describes data continuity, not an identical high-speed allowance. Maya’s global product also covers destinations beyond Japan, so its scope differs from a single-country offer.
| Provider | 7-day displayed total | Important condition |
|---|---|---|
| Holafly | USD 27.50 | Japan: 1 GB/day hotspot; operator fair-use conditions apply. |
| eSIM io | EUR 19.50 | Japan: hotspot listed; confirm current high-speed/fair-use terms for the selected offer. |
| Maya Mobile | USD 19.99 | Global product including Japan; review Travel Mode renewal and acceptable use. |
| eSIMfo | EUR 12.55 | Japan: 3 GB high speed per 24 hours, then 1 Mbps; hotspot listed. |
Price–performance: three details that change the result
Useful data, not just advertised GB
If you expect to use 6 GB, a 10 GB bundle leaves a 4 GB buffer. For Japan, eSIMfo’s EUR 11.90 fixed bundle and EUR 12.55 unlimited week differ by EUR 0.65, but their validity and speed rules differ too. The 30-day bundle may suit a longer light-use trip; daily allowances may suit a shorter heavier-use trip.
Hotspot and reduced-speed limits
A 3 GB daily allowance totals 21 GB over seven daily cycles, but it is not a freely usable 21 GB pool: unused daily allowance does not automatically move to tomorrow. For laptop work, check hotspot, cloud backups and video meetings. A 5G label alone cannot predict speed, latency or indoor reception.
Coverage and renewal
A local plan can be enough for one country; a regional offer may simplify border crossings. Recheck exceptions such as Kosovo rather than assuming “Europe” includes it. For reusable eSIMs, distinguish keeping the profile, buying a new package and automatically spending wallet credit.
Choose by your trip, not by a universal ranking
| Your trip | A sensible starting point | Check before paying |
|---|---|---|
| 7-day city break | A fixed bundle for maps, messaging and ordinary browsing | Estimate use from your phone’s history; offline maps can reduce demand. |
| Remote work with a laptop | A generous bundle or unlimited plan with suitable hotspot | Daily high-speed limits, video calls, renewal, backup Wi-Fi and network coverage. |
| Several countries or frequent returns | A regional/global offer or reusable profile | Every country, total validity and the price of the next plan—not just installation convenience. |
| Cruise or ferry route | A specifically listed maritime product | The exact vessel, offshore coverage and port coverage; a country eSIM is not automatically valid at sea. |
Compare the app workflow as well as the tariff
Before departure, locate your active plan, remaining data, expiry and support contact. Holafly and eSIM io illustrate two different storefronts: day-based plans versus a reusable profile with several purchase modes. Travel eSIM comparison: frequently asked questions
Which is the best eSIM for international travel?
Choose the plan that covers your complete route, supports your device and matches your usage. This comparison uses equal-size Japan bundles and separate unlimited examples; it does not rank one provider as best in every country.
Holafly or Yesim: which is better?
For Japan, Holafly focuses on day-based unlimited data, while Yesim also lists fixed bundles. Compare your travel dates, expected use and sharing needs. Holafly’s Japan hotspot allowance is 1 GB per day; confirm the chosen Yesim plan’s terms.
Is unlimited eSIM data always full speed?
No. Saily’s Japan offer lists 5 GB per day without a speed limit, while Jetpac and the sampled eSIMfo Japan unlimited plan list 3 GB per 24 hours. The cited reduced rate is up to 1 Mbps for Saily/Jetpac and 1 Mbps for eSIMfo. Other products use different fair-use rules.
Can I use an eSIM as a hotspot?
Many plans allow it, but the allowance can differ from phone data. Holafly’s Japan plan, for example, has a separate daily sharing limit. Check the exact country and plan rather than a general statement about the brand.
Does a Europe eSIM include Kosovo?
Only if Kosovo appears in the purchased plan’s coverage list. A regional name, a provider’s total destination count or OneSIM compatibility is not enough to confirm it. Ask support if the listing is unclear.
Which phones work with travel eSIMs?
The precise model, regional variant and carrier-lock status matter. Check the provider’s compatibility tool and your phone settings before purchase; the same marketing model name can have different regional capabilities.
What if I accidentally delete my eSIM?
Connect to Wi-Fi and contact the provider with your order details. Reinstallation or replacement depends on the profile and provider. Do not assume a QR code is reusable, and do not delete the profile as the first troubleshooting step.
How do I stop an eSIM or avoid further charges?
Turning off a phone line stops its use on that phone, but does not necessarily cancel a subscription or wallet-based renewal. Check the app’s renewal and end-of-plan options, then keep the confirmation.
