Ramadan Umrah 2027: eSIM & Family Internet Checklist
Prepare your family's phones for Ramadan Umrah 2027: Saudi eSIM choices, 10–14 day data budgets, Nusuk access and an offline meeting plan for Makkah and Madinah.

In this article
For Ramadan Umrah 2027, plan mobile internet around the people travelling with you. A family may share hotel Wi-Fi, but a parent returning early or a companion leaving separately needs a connection of their own. A Saudi Arabia eSIM can supply data on a compatible phone. Prepare the account logins, data lines and meeting plan at home so that less of your time in Makkah and Madinah is spent fixing phones.

What should you confirm before Ramadan Umrah 2027?
Check the latest Ministry of Hajj and Umrah and Nusuk guidance for your travel dates, permits and personal circumstances. This guide does not present a confirmed 2027 permit calendar: do not carry over a previous year's entry or departure deadlines. Follow Saudi announcements for the confirmed Ramadan calendar.
Use the official Nusuk service for the relevant permit process. Sign into your own account before travel, confirm the phone number you use for verification and keep required travel details accessible. Internet access helps you use the service; buying an eSIM does not issue a permit or complete a booking.

Should each family member have a Saudi eSIM?
Give independent data access to each person who may travel separately and needs to use a phone. A hotspot can help while everyone stays together, but it depends on the owner's location and battery. Compare your home operator's Saudi roaming first; a second package may be unnecessary if suitable data is already included.
| Option | Best fit | Check |
|---|---|---|
| One data plan per phone | Companions who may separate | Device compatibility, allowance and expiry |
| One phone sharing a hotspot | People staying together | Hotspot permission, battery and proximity |
| Home SIM roaming | An existing suitable Saudi allowance | Data, call and SMS charges |
A data-only eSIM does not automatically include a Saudi number or ordinary calls. Read the plan details and check the phone's exact regional model and carrier-unlock status. Our general Umrah internet guide compares the broader options; this checklist focuses on family preparation for Ramadan.

How much data should you plan for 10 or 14 days?
Use your phone's recent consumption as a starting point. The examples below are per connected phone and use assumed daily totals, not measured Nusuk consumption. Add airport and transfer days. Video calls, uploads and backups can be much larger than maps and text messages.
| Example | Assumption | Total |
|---|---|---|
| Ten days, lighter use | 300 MB × 10 days | 3 GB |
| Fourteen days, regular use | 500 MB × 14 days | 7 GB |
| Fourteen days, heavier use | 1 GB × 14 days | 14 GB |
For the first two examples, compare 5 GB and 10 GB respectively to leave a margin. The eSIMfo Saudi page listed both with 30-day validity on 11 September 2026. For the third, check a larger allowance or the actual fair-use limits of an unlimited plan. Compare current prices, coverage and validity-start conditions on the product page; validity must cover your whole stay, not just the days in Makkah.

How do you prepare a parent's or companion's phone?
- Check compatibility and unlock status, then install on reliable Wi-Fi according to the provider's timing instructions. Label the lines clearly and retain the support details.
- Choose the travel eSIM for mobile data on arrival and set its data roaming as instructed. Disable automatic switching to the home data line if you want to prevent unintended home-line data use.
- Keep access to the existing number used by Nusuk, banking or other account verification. Voice calls and SMS on your home line follow your home operator's rates; a data-only eSIM cannot receive ordinary SMS by itself.
- Test a map, one family message and the required account login before leaving the hotel. Keep the existing messaging account; a new data line normally does not require changing your WhatsApp number.
- With the phone owner's agreement, make text easy to read and put the family contact and hotel details somewhere easy to find. Practise opening them once. If setup fails, contact support before deleting the eSIM.

What is a useful family meeting plan near the Haram?
Agree one clearly identifiable meeting place and a fallback time, following current local access instructions. ‘Outside the mosque’ is too vague. Each person should have the hotel name and address, the meeting details and a family contact saved offline; a small paper copy is a useful second option.
Before separating, check the remaining battery and data. Location sharing can help when both parties consent and the phones are connected, but it should support the agreed plan. Heavy crowds can slow any mobile network. Charge phones and download needed files at the accommodation, and move large photo backups to Wi-Fi so you are not troubleshooting during busy periods.

What changes when travelling between Makkah and Madinah?
Save transport bookings, the actual station or pickup address and the destination hotel offline before departure. Read the travel operator's current instructions and allow time for queues. Keep each traveller's required documents accessible rather than relying on one phone for the entire group.
At the new accommodation, test the connection, review the remaining allowance and update the family's meeting details. If using hotel Wi-Fi, remember that maps and messages outside the building still need mobile data. A country plan is useful across the itinerary, but check its listed coverage instead of assuming uninterrupted service on every train or route.

Ramadan Umrah eSIM: family questions
Does a data eSIM replace the number used for Nusuk?
No. Your account and verification number are separate from the line providing internet. Test your official account access before travel and keep the required verification method available.
Can our family share one unlimited plan?
Only if the plan allows hotspot and you remain close to the sharing phone. Unlimited data does not remove battery, fair-use or congestion limits. People travelling separately need an independent solution.
Should I install the eSIM before flying?
Usually installation can be prepared on reliable Wi-Fi, but read the plan's validity-start rule first. Installation and the start of the usable allowance may be different events.
Will 5 GB be enough for a ten-day Umrah?
At an assumed 300 MB per day, ten days use 3 GB and 5 GB leaves a margin. Frequent video calls or large uploads can exceed that example. Use your own recent phone usage to choose.
