A good Peru trip is built around distances, not a long checklist. Start with Lima’s food and Pacific coast, leave time for Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and organise Machu Picchu before filling the remaining days. Mobile internet helps with transfers, tickets and messages, but your essential reservations should also be available offline.

For 7–10 days, prioritise Lima, Cusco and the Sacred Valley. With two weeks, add one region rather than several. A Peru eSIM is convenient if your phone supports it and your existing plan does not include suitable roaming.

Where should you go on a first trip to Peru?

Lima: make space for the coast and food

Miraflores offers coastal walks and a practical base; Barranco adds galleries, cafés and colourful streets. Group nearby stops into the same day and allow generous time for the airport. Keep your accommodation address, transfer instructions and driver’s contact offline. A data connection is useful for finding a meeting point, but is no substitute for checking the vehicle and booking details.

Cusco and the Sacred Valley: travel at a comfortable pace

Explore the historic centre and San Blas, then consider Pisac and Ollantaytambo for a Valley stay. Cusco is above 3,300 metres: leave a gentle arrival day rather than scheduling a strenuous excursion immediately. Discuss altitude concerns with a qualified health professional before travel. Combining nearby Valley sights can reduce repeated transfers from Cusco.

How do you plan Machu Picchu without booking the wrong route?

Buy admission through the Ministry of Culture’s official ticket portal. Select the circuit, route, date and entry time deliberately: the options do not all include the same viewpoints or paths. Read the official circuit descriptions before paying.

Confirm admission availability before locking in non-refundable transport. Train tickets, the bus from Machu Picchu Pueblo and site admission are separate arrangements unless your tour explicitly includes them. Match the name and identification details to your travel document. Save the ticket and route instructions offline; do not depend on mobile reception at the entrance.

A realistic 7–14-day Peru route

Time availableSuggested focusPlanning priority
7 daysLima, Cusco, Sacred Valley and Machu PicchuLimit extra stops; keep arrival and transfer time realistic
10 daysThe same route with slower city and Valley daysAdd a buffer for transport changes
14 daysAdd Arequipa or a carefully organised Amazon visitCheck flights, road time and regional weather first

These are planning examples, not timed tour packages. Peru’s coast, Andes and Amazon have different conditions. Around Cusco, the drier months are generally May–October; wetter months require more flexibility. Check official travel information and your operator’s updates for the actual dates.

Peru eSIM, local SIM or roaming: which fits your trip?

OptionUseful whenCheck before choosing
Travel eSIMYou want mobile data arranged before arrivalExact device variant, network, validity and activation rule
Local SIMYou want local service and in-person assistanceIdentification requirements, opening hours and phone lock
Existing carrier roamingYour plan already includes PeruData allowance, speed limits and charges outside the bundle

The Peru plans checked here list Movistar and 4G/LTE. National coverage does not mean reception on every mountain trail, train section or remote lodge. Download maps and tickets before leaving a reliable connection; ask your accommodation about the specific area. A travel data plan does not automatically include a Peruvian phone number.

Which eSIMfo Peru packages can you compare?

DataValidityExample price
1 GB7 days€3.75
3 GB30 days€6.65
5 GB30 days€9.95
10 GB30 days€16.30

Prices are a dated snapshot, not a permanent offer. Compare current Peru eSIM plans, including unlimited options. For unlimited plans, read the speed, fair-use and hotspot conditions; unlimited data does not establish unlimited full-speed use.

For light maps and messaging, start with your own recent daily usage. For example, 300 MB per day over ten days is approximately 3 GB, before app updates or video uploads. Frequent video calls and tethering can raise this substantially. Download entertainment on Wi-Fi and check usage after your first day.

Set up before departure, test after arrival

  • Confirm eSIM support and that your phone accepts other networks before buying.
  • Install over reliable Wi-Fi using your order instructions; check whether validity starts on installation or first supported-network connection.
  • On arrival, select the travel eSIM for mobile data and apply its roaming and APN instructions. Keep data roaming off on the home line if you want to avoid its data charges.
  • Test with Wi-Fi off. Save support details and avoid deleting the profile as a first troubleshooting step.

Use our eSIM installation guide for device steps. Keep your usual line available if you need SMS sent to its existing number; WhatsApp can continue using that number over the travel data connection.

Peru eSIM: practical questions

Does a Peru eSIM work at Machu Picchu?

Coverage depends on the network, terrain and exact location. The checked plans cover Peru, but that is not a guarantee inside every site or along the approach. Save admission tickets and maps offline.

Can I keep my WhatsApp number?

Yes, you can normally keep the number already registered in WhatsApp while using a different SIM for data. Re-registering the account is a separate action and may require a verification code.

Do I need an eSIM if my carrier includes Peru?

Not necessarily. Compare the included allowance, speed and any daily fee first. An additional plan is useful when that allowance or coverage does not meet your trip’s needs.

Is 3 GB enough for ten days?

It equals roughly 300 MB per day. That may suit restrained map and messaging use, but video, cloud backups and sharing can quickly exceed it. Base your choice on actual usage.

Will this data eSIM receive bank SMS?

The Peru data plans shown do not supply an SMS-capable number. Codes sent to your existing number require that original line or another authentication method already supported by your bank.

Is there one best season for all of Peru?

No. Coastal, Andean and Amazon conditions differ. Choose the route first and then check the weather and access conditions for each region and your dates.
