Greece Internet & eSIM: Travel from Turkey to the Islands
Plan mobile internet from Turkey to Greece: eSIM prices, Kos and Chios ferry tips, roaming settings, WhatsApp and a reseller guide for travel businesses.

In this article
For mobile internet in Greece, compare your home carrier’s roaming, a Greece travel eSIM and a local SIM. If you are travelling from Turkey for a short island break, a compatible phone lets you install an eSIM before departure and use it for data after arriving in Greece. You can keep your existing WhatsApp number. This guide covers real package examples, ferry and border settings, and the preparations that matter before leaving reliable Wi-Fi.

1. Will a Turkish SIM work in Greece, and which connection should you choose?
A Turkish line can work in Greece when international roaming is enabled and an agreement with a local network allows it. That does not mean your domestic allowance is included at the same price. Turkcell, Vodafone and Türk Telekom conditions depend on the plan, prepaid or postpaid status, and roaming service. Check Greece eligibility, the activity that triggers a daily charge and out-of-bundle rates before departure.
Greece being in the EU does not automatically give a Turkish mobile plan free EU roaming. If you have an eligible EU/EEA carrier plan, your existing roaming allowance may already cover Greece. Check the Turkey part of a combined journey separately: the two countries do not automatically share your plan’s roaming conditions.
| Option | When to consider it | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Roaming on your existing line | An included travel allowance is sufficient; you also need regular calls/SMS | Daily trigger, included usage and extra charges |
| Greece data eSIM | A separate data budget without changing a physical SIM | Device compatibility, allowance, validity and coverage |
| Local SIM or hotel Wi-Fi | A local line or backup connection | Registration and shop access; Wi-Fi is limited to where it is offered |

2. How much does a Greece eSIM cost?
These options were displayed on eSIMfo’s live Greece page with EUR selected on 11 September 2026. They are the displayed prices of one-off data packages on that date; check the current checkout amount before paying. If your card uses another currency, your bank’s exchange rate and fees can affect the final debit.
| Data | Validity | Price checked on 11 September 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| 3 GB | 30 days | €3.45 |
| 5 GB | 30 days | €5.50 |
| 10 GB | 30 days | €8.55 |
The inspected 3 GB plan lists Nova and Vodafone, data-only service, hotspot and top-up features, and 30 days from activation. Its instructions recommend installing before travel and turning the line on at arrival. This data plan does not provide a Greek phone number, regular voice minutes or SMS allowance. Read the individual details if you choose a different package.

3. How much data do you need for three, five or seven days?
Start with your recent phone usage. Maps and messages need a different budget from frequent video streaming. These calculations are assumed daily totals, not measurements of individual apps. Cloud photo uploads and devices connected through your hotspot also consume the allowance.
| Example trip | Assumed usage | Total and a planning margin |
|---|---|---|
| Three-day island break | 500 MB × 3 days = 1.5 GB | 3 GB leaves room above this example |
| Five-day holiday | 700 MB × 5 days = 3.5 GB | 5 GB leaves room above this example |
| Seven days with heavier sharing | 1 GB × 7 days = 7 GB | 10 GB leaves room above this example |
Move large backups and software updates to Wi-Fi. Family members exploring separately benefit from their own connection; one hotspot works only when devices remain close enough and the sharing phone has power. If choosing unlimited data, read speed and fair-use conditions as well.
4. How do you install the eSIM before leaving Turkey?
- Check the exact phone model, sales region and carrier lock. On iPhone, look under Settings > General > About for a carrier-lock status showing no SIM restrictions. On Android, verify eSIM support for the exact model rather than relying on the product family name.
- Complete purchase and installation on reliable Wi-Fi before travelling. If the QR code is on the same phone, use the supplied app or manual-install option, or display the code on another screen. Avoid leaving installation to a last-minute port connection.
- On iPhone, use Settings > Cellular/Mobile Data > Add eSIM. On a compatible Samsung, use Settings > Connections > SIM manager > Add eSIM. Labels can vary with software. Give the lines clear names such as ‘Home’ and ‘Greece’.
- Separate installing the profile from switching it on for travel. The inspected package recommends activation at arrival. Read your order’s validity trigger; a Greece-only plan is not something to test for mobile connectivity while still in Turkey.
- Keep the order, setup instructions, support contact, hotel address and ferry ticket available offline. Do not share the QR code publicly. If setup fails, contact support before deleting the profile.

5. Which data and roaming settings should you use on arrival?
Turn on the travel eSIM in Greece and select it for mobile data. Enable data roaming on that travel line according to eSIMfo’s installation instructions. Turn off data roaming on your Turkish home line and disable automatic mobile-data switching where available. The roaming toggle for your travel eSIM and your home carrier’s international charges are separate settings and services.
If you keep the home line active for SMS or calls, check your carrier’s terms: turning off data roaming does not itself switch off voice or SMS charges. Briefly disconnect Wi-Fi and test a map search and a message. If data fails, check the selected line, remaining allowance and APN instructions in your order; do not enter a random APN.

6. What changes on Kos, Chios and a ferry crossing?
Bodrum–Kos and Çeşme–Chios are examples of Turkey-to-island crossings. Confirm your port, operator and departure time on your own booking. Save the meeting point in Kos town or the address of your Chios accommodation before sailing. Do not assume a Greece package includes the Turkish side of the journey.
Country coverage does not mean uninterrupted service in every bay or in open water. The current package lists Nova/Vodafone, but reception varies with island, building, terrain and network load. Walking around Rhodes old town and crossing the sea away from shore are different conditions. Buying more gigabytes does not repair weak signal.
Greek regulator EETT warns that phones near a border can connect to the neighbouring country’s network. Check the displayed operator and any welcome message; if needed, select only a supported network following the plan instructions. If you do not need a mobile connection offshore, use airplane mode and consider the ship’s separate Wi-Fi service if available. Satellite or maritime mobile networks do not follow the same roaming conditions as terrestrial networks.

7. Will WhatsApp, Google Maps and my existing number still work?
Yes: eSIMfo’s Greece product page states support for WhatsApp and Google Maps. You do not need to change your existing WhatsApp account to a Greek number; messages and app calls use the eSIM’s data connection. Preserve access to your existing verification number in case a new login requires it.
Regular phone calls, SMS verification and WhatsApp calls are different services. A data-only eSIM cannot receive your bank’s SMS; you need access to the number registered with that account. Download Google Maps areas ahead of time. Saving a hotel in Thessaloniki or Athens is useful, but offline maps do not replace live traffic and every transport update.

8. Can phone shops and travel businesses offer Greece eSIMs?
Phone shops, travel agencies and hotels serving Turkey–Greece travellers can help with three practical tasks: checking the device, choosing an appropriate destination and allowance, and explaining setup. A business helping customers before departure from Bodrum or Çeşme can include an arrival checklist; tourism businesses on the Greek islands can assess connectivity needs for arriving guests.
eSIMfo’s reseller program accepts applications from phone retailers, hotels and travel agencies. Businesses interested in selling digital travel data can describe their sales channel and service area through the partner page. Approval, current commercial terms and available packages are subject to assessment.
Explain compatibility, destination, validity trigger and data-only service before a sale. Help with installation on the customer’s own device and account, with their consent; do not leave QR codes or account details on shared screens. This is not a physical-dealer directory and does not claim that eSIMfo stores already operate in the named towns.

9. Quick answers about internet in Greece
Does a Greece eSIM cancel my Turkish SIM?
No. On a compatible dual-SIM phone it can work alongside your Turkish line. Select the data line separately; home-line calls and SMS remain subject to your carrier’s terms.
Will a Greece package also provide data in Turkey?
Do not assume this for a Greece-only package. If you need data in both countries, compare regional or separate plans that explicitly list each destination.
Is 3 GB enough for the Greek islands?
Three days at an assumed 500 MB per day totals 1.5 GB, so 3 GB leaves a margin for that example. Video, backups and hotspot use can require a larger allowance.
Can a phone shop install an eSIM, and where can it apply to resell?
A shop can provide setup help on a compatible device with the customer’s consent. Businesses can apply through eSIMfo’s reseller program; do not assume every phone shop is an authorised dealer.
