An Egypt trip can move from a morning among the pyramids to an afternoon beside the Red Sea—but those experiences are not next door to each other. Choose your route first, then arrange transfers, tickets and mobile internet around it. This guide helps you compare Cairo, Sharm el Sheikh and Hurghada without spending your holiday changing hotels.

Updated 14 October 2026. Prices below were checked in EUR on eSIMfo. This is an editorial planning guide, not a first-hand network test. The cover is an AI-created travel illustration combining separate destinations.

Where should you go in Egypt?

BaseBest fitA useful planning decision
Cairo and GizaPyramids, museums and city lifeAllow two or three days and group visits geographically; city traffic can reshape a tight schedule.
Sharm el SheikhResort stays, snorkelling and diving in South SinaiChoose a hotel for its beach access and transfer arrangements, not only the room price.
HurghadaRed Sea holidays and boat excursionsCheck the exact resort area: a hotel marketed as Hurghada may require a longer transfer.

If ancient sites are your priority, consider a separate Luxor or Aswan stay. A map pin does not show the effort of a long road transfer. Ask for the full door-to-door journey before adding an excursion to a beach holiday. The Egyptian tourism authority is a useful starting point for destination research.

A realistic 7-day or 10-day Egypt itinerary

For seven days, a manageable outline is three days in Cairo and Giza, one transfer day, and three days at one Red Sea base. Adapt the order to your flights. If your priority is a slow beach break, staying in one resort with selected excursions may be a better trip than chasing every landmark.

For ten days, add time to your chosen bases or plan a separate cultural stop with confirmed transport. Sharm and Hurghada are distinct destinations; do not assume a simple direct connection across the sea. Keep the final night and airport transfer realistic, especially before an international flight.

Book one main activity per day, leave room for heat and queues, and save your accommodation address and meeting point offline. Before paying for non-refundable arrangements, check entry requirements for your nationality through the official Egypt e-Visa portal and current travel advice from your government.

Egypt internet: eSIM, local SIM or roaming?

A travel eSIM is convenient when your unlocked phone supports it and you want data ready on arrival. A local SIM can be useful if you need a local number; compare registration requirements, opening hours and the complete package. Your home operator's roaming may also be suitable if Egypt is explicitly included at an acceptable price. European roaming allowances should not be assumed to cover Egypt.

Hotel Wi-Fi is helpful for downloads, but you may still want mobile data for a driver meeting point, maps or a message while away from the resort. Before buying, check the exact phone model and regional version—not simply whether the brand generally supports eSIM.

Which Egypt eSIM package fits your trip?

The eSIMfo Egypt plans checked for this guide list Vodafone and 4G/LTE for the following data-only options. These packages provide internet, not an Egyptian phone number.

DataValidityPrice, EURPlanning example
1 GB7 days€4.20Light messaging and occasional maps, with Wi-Fi for larger downloads
5 GB30 days€12.85A week of moderate use with photo backups restricted to Wi-Fi
10 GB30 days€21.65More frequent use or a longer stay; monitor consumption

Prices are a snapshot from 14 October 2026; current checkout prices and individual plan conditions apply. A 30-day validity does not require a 30-day trip. The inspected 5 GB plan lists hotspot and top-up support, with validity starting on activation; check the activation rule for your chosen package before installation.

How much data do you need for 7 or 10 days?

Use your phone's recent mobile-data usage as the starting point. 500 MB per day × 7 days = about 3.5 GB, so 5 GB leaves some margin under that assumption. At 1 GB a day, ten days uses 10 GB with no reserve. Video, cloud photo backups, app updates and tethering can change the calculation substantially.

Download offline maps over Wi-Fi, disable automatic mobile backups and check consumption after the first day. Coverage and speed depend on the precise location, building and network load. Resort coverage is not a promise of a signal on a boat, in the desert or along every transfer route.

Set up before departure, connect after arrival

  • Confirm eSIM compatibility and that the phone is carrier-unlocked. Keep the installation instructions accessible on another screen or offline.
  • Install on a reliable connection when the plan's activation policy allows. Label the profile “Egypt” and keep its QR code private.
  • On arrival, select that profile for mobile data. Enable its data roaming if the supplied instructions require it; disable data roaming and automatic data switching on your home line to avoid unintended usage.
  • If it does not connect, check the selected data line and the supplied APN instructions, then contact support. Do not delete the eSIM as the first troubleshooting step.

Compare the current Egypt data options against your itinerary, existing roaming benefits and actual usage. The most useful package is the one that fits those three things.

Egypt eSIM: frequently asked questions

How does an Egypt eSIM work?

It installs a digital SIM profile on a compatible, unlocked phone. The selected package connects through its supported local network. Installation, activation and the start of validity are separate details to check before travel.

Is roaming in Egypt included in my usual plan?

Only if your home operator specifically includes Egypt. Check the destination, allowance, daily charging trigger and expiry; an EU roaming benefit alone does not establish coverage in Egypt.

Which eSIM is best for seven or ten days in Egypt?

Match the allowance to your usage and choose validity that covers the entire stay. Five GB is a reasonable planning example for seven days at 500 MB daily, not a guarantee for every traveller.

Is an unlimited Egypt eSIM truly without limits?

Read the specific plan's fair-use policy, high-speed allowance, reduced speed and hotspot conditions. “Unlimited” does not automatically mean unlimited full-speed tethering.

Will the same Egypt eSIM work in Cairo, Sharm and Hurghada?

A country plan is not restricted to one city, but service depends on the listed network's coverage at your location. Check remote excursions separately and keep essential information offline.

Does a data-only eSIM include calls, SMS or WhatsApp?

It does not supply a local number or ordinary cellular calls and SMS. Messaging apps use data; voice and video availability can depend on the app, network and local conditions. Keep your home line if you need messages sent to that number, subject to your operator's rules.
